IATF is composed of nine complete vehicle factories: BMW Group, Chrysler LLC, Daimler AG, Fiat Group Automobiles, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Renault and Volkswagen AG) and 5 national supervision organizations: IAOB, ANFIA, FIEV, SMMT and VDA-QMC.

ISO / TS16949:2009 is the technical specification of the international automobile industry, which is based on ISO9001 and added to the technical specification of the automobile industry. This specification is completely consistent with iso9000:2008, but more emphasis is placed on defect prevention and reduction of quality fluctuation and waste in the supply chain of automobile parts. The pertinence and applicability of ISO / TS16949 standard is very clear. It is only applicable to automobile manufacturers and their direct spare parts manufacturers. That is to say, these manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, be able to carry out processing and manufacturing activities, and make products value-added through such activities. At the same time, there are strict restrictions on the qualification of the certified company's manufacturers. Those who only have supporting functions, such as design center, company headquarters and distribution center, or those who manufacture equipment and tools for vehicle manufacturers or auto parts manufacturers, cannot be certified. The management of ISO / TS16949:2009 certification is completed by 5 supervision organizations on behalf of IATF. They use the same procedure method to supervise the operation and implementation of ISO / TS16949, so as to form a completely unified system of standards and operations in the world.

ISO / TS16949:2002 was developed by IATF with the support of ISO / TC 176 quality management and quality assurance technical committee. The third edition of ISO / TS16949 cancels and replaces the second edition, which is technically revised according to ISO9001:2008. As ISO / TS16949:2009 has included all contents of ISO9001:2008, it has obtained the certification of ISO / TS16949:2009, which also marks the compliance with ISO9001:2008 standard.

Requirements for auditee

ISO / TS16949:2009 certification registration is only applicable to automobile manufacturers and their direct parts manufacturers. These manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, have the ability of processing and manufacturing, and make the products value-added through the realization of this ability.

The company required to obtain ISO / TS16949:2009 certification and registration must have at least 12 consecutive months of production and quality management records, including complete records of internal review and management review.

For a newly established processing site, if there is no 12-month record, it can also be reviewed to meet the requirements of the quality system specification, and the certification company can issue the "compliance certificate" issued by NQA. After 12 months of records are available, the certification audit and registration shall be carried out.

If the certified organization fails to maintain the normal operation of the quality system and the consistency of product quality, it will have the risk of certificate revocation.
